A lot has happened since the last time Memphis 901 FC had a home game at AutoZone Park. The last home game was nearly three weeks ago and in that time there has been plenty going on. Since the last home game 901 FC has done the following: notched a league win on the road, traded their leading goalscorer from last season, had a game on the schedule postponed, and had a week off. That week off could be crucial as they look to maintain their seven match unbeaten run in league play intact when Miami FC comes to town.
Memphis 901 FC’s last home game was back on May 13 in which they posted a 2-1 win over the Colorado Springs Switchbacks (overcoming a player being sent off and scoring just two minutes from full-time). Following that win they headed out on the road for a rare Friday night game against FC Tulsa, which they won 2-1 to extend their unbeaten streak in league play to seven games. But it was the news after the Tulsa game that grabbed all the headlines as it was announced that 901 FC had traded Philip Goodrum to Tulsa in exchange for Rodrigo da Costa. Goodrum was the team’s leading scorer last year with 22 goals but only had one this year in twelve games across all competitions. In return Memphis picked up a player in da Costa who sits near the top of the league in chances created. And then during Memphis’ week off came news that the game scheduled for June 7 @ Birmingham Legion had been postponed due to the Legion’s Cupset win over Charlotte FC in the US Open Cup. The good news is that it gives 901 FC a full week between the upcoming home game against Miami FC and the road trip the following week against Louisville City.
Miami FC is not having the best season. They went winless in their first six games (including a 1-1 home draw with Memphis 901 FC). In fact, they only have two wins all season: a 4-1 home win over the Las Vegas Lights on April 23 and then a 3-1 home win over Birmingham Legion on May 3. Their record in games away from home this season stands at 0-2-2 with both of the two losses coming by multiple goals (at Tampa Bay Rowdies and at Louisville City). They do feature a pair of former Memphis 901 FC players in defender Mark Segbers and forward Kyle Murphy.
