It was announced late Saturday evening that the longest tenured Memphis Grizzly Dillon Brooks was nearing a deal with the Houston Rockets via Shams Charania of The Athletic.

It was later announced that Brooks was signing a four-year $80 million contract with Houston per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

It was rumored that the Grizzlies would be featured in a sign and trade with Houston for Brooks, as part of the sign and trade, Memphis received Guard Josh Christopher from Houston in the deal.

Brooks, who has spent his entire career with the Grizzlies will be heading to a new home as he nears a deal with the Rockets following meeting with a hand full of teams over the last 24 hours featuring the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and finally the Rockets this afternoon.

Memphis gains a young wing in Josh Christopher, who played in 74 games for the Rockets last season averaging eight points per game in 18 minutes. In the deal, Memphis retains roughly $18 million in trade exception.

  1. Christopher’s raw. His game is not dissimilar from Ziaire and that’s not a big compliment but I actually think him being here will help push both him and Williams to improve because of their similarities, although he is a bit smaller. If there’s anything either one has at an NBA level, now is the time to show it beyond just simple athletic ability.

I wouldn’t miss Brooks if they had properly solidified the 3, but with our list of options I fear we’ll end up missing him a lot. Brooks is ultimately guaranteed to cost us, but he at least could be counted on to keep the ship afloat heading into the storm. If Williams or LaRavia are getting significant time at the 3 then the ship may sink before it gets out of the harbor.
