After a trio of commitments over the weekend, Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield and the staff landed linebacker Marucs Tillman Jr. on Monday morning. With the commitment from Tillman, the Tigers 2023 class is now ranked No. 63 overall on 247Sports and No. 47 overall on Rivals (tied for the best class in school history).
Tillman was a three-star prospect in the 2019 class and chose to further his career at Texas. After redshirting in 2019 and playing sparingly in 2020 for the Longhorns, Tillman entered the transfer portal and ultimately landed at Navarro College. In his lone season with the Bulldogs, Tillman finished the year with 48 tackles, seven sacks, one interception, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
At 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, the linebacker has great size, speed and strength, which will add another physical presence to Memphis’ linebacker corps.
Since Saturday, Silverfield and the staff have added four commits to the 2023 class, including its highest ranked commit in three-star linebacker Karmelo Overton. Following the addition of Overton on Saturday, Memphis added three-star JUCO offensive lineman Judea Milon and three-star cornerback Traveon Wright on Sunday.
