Marcus Smart To Miss 3-5 Weeks With A Left Foot Injury

This feels like the part in the movie when the characters say something like “At least it’s not raining,”… You know? And then it proceeds to rain and rain and rain. As if the powers that be were showing us up for being optimistic.

To be honest, it’s hard to not laugh at the situation at this point. Though somehow we’re all still missing the joke. Ready?

Marcus Smart will miss the next 3-5 weeks following the injury to his ankle Tuesday.

Not all that funny is it? A dire situation in Memphis somehow gets more dire. The injury bug has been ravaging this roster since two days before the season. They’ve already lost several contributors for more than one game on the season.

We’re 11 games in for those keeping track at home.

The Smart ankle news couldn’t come at a worse time. Already depleted and scrounging the bottom of the barrel… The Grizzlies are nearing defcon 1.

It will be hard to replace versatility of Smart, but at least the Grizzlies have multiple options. They could go with David Roddy—my choice—or they could go with Ziaire Williams. They could go with Luke Kennard (once he returns) if they decided the team needed more offense. They could also give John Konchar the minutes if they decide they need a little bit of everything else.

In the end, this is certainly another significant loss for the Grizzlies, and one that may not be resolved until Ja Morant returns.
