The Memphis Hustle played their final home game of the season on Tuesday evening versus the Stockton Kings, kickstarting a winning streak of two games to build off of their Thursday night victory over the Cleveland Charge. This game was a very back and forth matchup before it was ultimately sealed by the fate of a last second jumper by Matthew Hurt to grant the Memphis Hustle a W in their final home game of the season.
The Stockton Kings came into the matchup 22-9 while sitting high as the number one seed with the best record in the G League. Former Grizzly, Jaylen Nowell, led the Kings efforts with 39 points, five assists, and six rebounds on 14-26 shooting and former NBA stud Stanley Johnson also added 35 points and nine rebounds. Despite a large comeback after trailing early, it was unfortunately not enough to secure the win on the road.
Matthew Hurt bounced back in this one for the Hustle with 21 points and seven boards, including the game winning fling from downtown; Michael Devoe added 25 points, seven boards, and four assists; Davon Reed notched 18 points, 10 boards, and six assists; and Adonis Arms contributed 18 points, five boards, and nine assists. This was a very impressive victory for the Hustle as they knocked down the best team in the league, stayed in tact despite blowing a large lead, and managed to string together a winning streak after getting over a very rough losing streak. A very pleasing end to the Hustle’s season at home.
The Hustle will return to action versus the Westchester Knicks on Friday afternoon for their second to last game of the season. The tip will be live from the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY, at 6:00 p.m. The game will be available for viewing at https://gleague.nba.com/.
