Penny Hardaway is in the market for a new assistant coach once again.
Sources confirm to Bluff City Media that Andy Borman will not return to Memphis’ coaching staff next season. Borman, who officially left the program several weeks ago, spent two seasons with the Tigers.
Memphis earned the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2023, and a 22-win campaign in 2024 with Borman on staff.
Borman spent eight years as the executive director of the New York Renaissance on the Nike EYBL circuit before his hiring at Memphis. He also played for Mike Krzyzewski at Duke from 1999-2004, and helped the Blue Devils to a National Championship in 2001 and another Final Four appearance in 2004.
Hardaway hired fellow Tigers legend Andre Turner, who was Lane College’s head coach for three seasons, last month. Turner’s exact role has yet to be determined, though. Rick Stansbury, Faragi Phillips and Jamie Rosser remain on Memphis’ staff for the time being.
Memphis welcomes all nine of its current scholarship players—including its seven transfer portal signees and lone returner Nick Jourdain—onto campus for summer workouts, which begin on June 1. Hardaway’s portal class includes guards PJ Haggerty, Colby Rogers, Tyrese Hunter and Baraka Okojie, forwards Dain Dainja and Tyreek Smith and center Moussa Cisse. Four-star high school recruit Jared Harris takes up Memphis’ ninth scholarship. Each player reported to Memphis earlier this week.
The Tigers still await word on David Jones’ status for next season. The 6-foot-6 forward, who was the nation’s seventh-leading scorer last season, declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility on April 20. He also participated in the NBA Draft Combine earlier this month.
Jones has until Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. CT to formally withdraw from the draft and return to school.
