Memphis basketball’s roster shakeup for next season is officially underway.

Freshman guard Jared Harris intends to enter the transfer portal when it opens Monday, sources confirmed to Bluff City Media Sunday night.

Harris, 6-foot-2, played sparingly in his only season with the Tigers. The 2024 4-star high school recruit averaged 0.4 points, 0.3 rebounds and three minutes in 16 appearances this year. He never played more than eight minutes and scored more than 3 points in a game.

Sources add that a lack of playing time is primarily why Harris is leaving the program. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Memphis, which lost to Colorado State in the NCAA Tournament Round of 64 Friday, is already expected to lose Tyrese Hunter, Dain Dainja, Nick Jourdain, Colby Rogers and Moussa Cisse due to expired eligibility. Harris becomes the sixth scholarship player coach Penny Hardaway is tasked with replacing this offseason.

PJ Haggerty, PJ Carter, Dante Harris, Baraka Okojie, redshirt Bouna Kebe and walk-on Damarien “Dink” Yates can all return in 2025-26. Eastern Florida guard Felipe Patino and Overtime Elite guard Daniel Vieira-Tuck are currently the only incoming players for next year’s team. This leaves Memphis with six open scholarships.

Hardaway coaches his eighth season at Memphis next winter.
