Memphis Grizzlies Sign Gabriel, Jarreau to 10-Day Contracts

New week? Guess that mean’s new players we need to keep track of right? Such has been the life of a Memphis Grizzlies fan this season.

And this past week was no different.

First—on Friday—the team announced the signing of Wenyen Gabriel to a 10-day contract. Despite only being in the league since the ’19-’20 season… Gabriel has already appeard on seven different NBA rosters.

That’s what we call a journeyman. Which is odd considering his age. But for a 10-day guy? Gabriel is about as good as you’re going to find.

In four seasons with the G-League his career per game averages are as follows… 14.9 PTS, 9.4 REB, 2.8 AST, 1.0 STL, and 1.5 BLK. That’s in 31.3 minutes a game.

Like I said for a 10-day guy? About as good as you’re going to get.

Memphis wasn’t finished after Gabriel’s signing either. On Sunday morning they announced the signing of DeJon Jarreau to another 10-day as well.

With Jarreau, the Grizzlies are getting a certified gem from the Memphis Hustle. He’s been averaging 17.6 PTS, 7.9 REB, 7.1 AST, and 1.3 STL in 29.7 minutes per game. Pair that with his 11 double doubles and four triple doubles?

In the words of the late, great Carl Weathers in his Arrested Development appearances… “You got yourself a stew going.”

Gabriel has already seen action in Memphis… And I’d expect Jarreau to do the same tonight. In a perfect world, both will have some kind of impact while in their brief stint here. But the world isn’t perfect, so time will tell if that’s the case.
