Memphis lands highly coveted St. John’s transfer David Jones
After a long layoff without news for the Memphis basketball program, Penny Hardaway and the staff landed a big time transfer on Monday. Former DePaul and St. John’s forward David Jones announced his commitment to the Tigers after visiting recently.
Jones has already transferred twice, so the concern when he emerged as a Memphis target was that he wouldn’t be immediately eligible. According to the Daily Memphian’s Parth Upadhyaya, Jones graduated in three years and should be eligible during the 2023-2024 season.
Last season, Jones averaged 13.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game in 31 contests. At 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, Jones gives Memphis another versatile wing who is dangerous on both ends of the floor.
