It was news that Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell confirmed last Thursday during media availability at AutoZone Park. But today, the team announced that Memphis 901 FC forward Neco Brett had undergone surgery to repair a right shoulder injury and is likely to miss the remainder of the season with an approximate six-month recovery time.
It’s something that Patterson-Sewell was definitely disappointed about last week at media availability.
“We’ve lost Neco for the year. He’ll be out.” Patterson-Sewell said. “So in the preseason we’ve had a late retirement, we bring in a top striker and now we lose him. So back to the drawing board on that one to try and give us a bit of a hand there. So that’s something that we need to add a different dimension.”
Neco Brett was one of the biggest signings of the off-season for 901 FC. Prior to his arrival in Memphis, Brett was the second all-time leading scorer in the history of the USL Championship with 81 goals to his name.
The Beale Street Boys will have to soldier on without him but were able to start that journey off on a good foot with last Saturday’s 3-0 win against the Birmingham Legion. The team is back at AutoZone Park this Saturday to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies (with tickets available for purchase). Being May 4th, Saturday is also Star Wars Day for the fans attending the game.
