Wednesday afternoon, the Memphis Grizzlies received more clarity on the news regarding Ja Morant and his recent Instagram Live video of him showing a gun at a club. The Glendale Police Department put out a statement that confirmed there wasn’t enough evidence for him to be charged with a crime:
The police investigation should play a factor into how the NBA manages this situation with Morant, as any sort of charge would’ve yielded a suspension — posing a question of “how many games?” rather than “if he’d be suspended.”
However, Grizzlies PR put out a statement announcing that Ja Morant will be away from the team for “at least” the next 4 games.
The NBA still has their investigation with Morant going on, and on Saturday afternoon, Morant stated through his agency that he’ll be taking time to work on his stress management and his well-being. Morant being out for this amount of time is not a surprise, even if the verbiage of “4 games” stirs speculation of his return. I’d bet his return is more “indefinite” than “at least 4 games,” a timetable Taylor Jenkins has adamantly expressed over the past 2 games.
Bluff City Media will update this story as more news comes out. The Grizzlies play the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks twice, and Miami Heat over the next 4 days.
