The Redbirds’ skid continues after being knocked around by the Jumbo Shrimp bats amid a litany of roster moves.
The Memphis Redbirds lost the series finale to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 7-4, their fourth straight loss, and put their record at 20-13.
Fresh from being sent down from St. Louis, Zack Thompson started the game, but it did not last two innings.
Totaling 1 ⅔ innings, the 25-year-old gave up two runs, two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.
Those two runs came in the first, but Memphis quickly responded with three runs in bottom half with a two-run double from Iván Herrera and RBI groundout from Luken Baker.
Baker added an RBI single later in the game to give two RBIs along with Herrera to account for all four runs to give them 13 (Herrera) and 29 (Baker).
Normal starter Connor Thomas took over for Thomas and went his normal amount of innings and was roughed up in his outing.
In 5 ⅓ innings, the lefty gave up five runs (three earned), eight hits, walked none, and struck out three.
Grant Black was tasked with keeping the Shrimp scoreless for the final two innings and was successful, giving up only one hit and one walk.
Unfortunately, it was not enough for the Redbirds to snap the losing streak, and the skid is now at four.
The Redbirds have a day of travel to lick their wounds before they begin their series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA at 10:05 CDT.
