Memphis 901 FC announced the signing of former D.C. United and USMNT keeper Bill Hamid on Monday morning. The 32-year-old Hamid has 13 seasons of MLS experience with D.C., starting in over 200 games in the nation’s capital.

“The signing of Bill Hamid will potentially be the greatest signing in club history and certainly one of the biggest in USL,” sporting director Tim Howard said in the team’s press release. “He comes to 901 FC as he enters the prime of his career. Bill has a winning pedigree, having lifted trophies domestically and internationally. Most importantly, we believe that his time spent as a member of the USMNT will prove pivotal to our locker room and on-field success.”

The deal is pending a physical examination and league and federation approval. The signing will secure Hamid with the team for the duration of the 2023 season.

Hamid had previously been linked to Scottish Premiership squad Dundee United, but manager Jim Goodwin told The Herald that the club had “decided to go in a different direction” last week.

The approvals from the league are expected to go through in time for Hamid to be available for selection for Saturday’s match against Oakland Roots SC.

Hamid has made eight starts between the sticks for the U.S. National team over the course of his career but has dealt with injuries over the past few years. He only made 10 starts last year due to a hand injury that required surgery in June.

“In Memphis there is an ambitious club, in a great market, with a solid team and staff,” Hamid said in the team’s press release. “After working with Tim Howard in many U.S. Men’s national team camps and being his teammate as we won the 2017 Gold Cup, I believe he and ownership have a great project here. I cherish the chance to come to Memphis and earn the right to play on a team who did really well last season.”
