The shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies fell to the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night 112-103 in a game that was defense heavy. The Lakers turned the ball over 15 times and shot just 25% from three but were able to pull out the victory largely due to the stellar play of Anthony Davis.

Grizz with no answer for Davis

In a shorthanded front court, the Grizzlies struggled to guard Davis, who continued his recent tear with a 30-point 22-rebound double-double performance. Jaren Jackson Jr. got into foul trouble in the fourth, picking up his fifth with 6:28 to go in the game, which allowed Davis to dominate the paint against Aldama and Tillman. Davis facilitated, scored and rebounded in the fourth, sparking a 17-4 run that gave the Lakers a five-point lead with just over three minutes to play. He had a put-back with under a minute left to seal the game for the Lakers.

Fourth quarter offense sputters out again

The Grizzlies simply could not score down the stretch. They went nearly four minutes without scoring after a basket at the 5:02 mark, and allowed the Lakers to seal away the game. The team went 2-10 from deep in the fourth.

Road woes continue

The Grizzlies have now lost 11 of their last 12 on the road, with their only win during that stretch coming against the tanking Houston Rockets.

Bane, Brooks struggle

Desmond Bane and Dillon Brooks combined to shoot 11-29 from the field. Bane wouldn’t score until there were six seconds left in the third and would finish with just seven points. Brooks shot 3-10 from downtown, including missing a wide-open look that would have put the game within four points.

Coming off the back of this performance, the Grizzlies will see the Golden State Warriors Thursday night at home. Tip is set for 7:30 P.M. central on TNT.
