Memphis 901 FC @ Indy Eleven preview
Memphis 901 FC’s most recent game against Loudoun United was a strange one. It kicked off at 11am local time (10am Memphis time) as part of Camp Day at Loudoun. The game finished 0-0 which allowed the Beale Street Boys to pick up a point on the road, which is always welcome. But at the end of the day, 901 FC has still not won a game since beating the Charleston Battery 3-2 at AutoZone Park back on June 24th. That’s a winless streak of seven straight games, which is made all the more strange in that it comes on the heels of a twelve match unbeaten streak. But there’s no rest for the weary as 901 FC has yet another road game, this time against Indy Eleven.
While their current run of form might not be very good, it’s also interesting that 901 FC has done pretty well on the road this season. With two exceptions (against Phoenix in July and most recently against Pittsburgh last Saturday), the Beale Street Boys have picked up points in every single road game this year. That means that through eleven road games this year, Memphis has picked up points in nine of them. This is something to keep an eye on, as they are in the midst of one of the longest road trips in team history. Between July 12th and September 2nd the Beale Street Boys have eight games on the road and only two at home and are currently in the middle of four straight on the road.
Indy Eleven is in much the same boat as Memphis is. Their form may not be quite as bad as 901 FC’s but it’s not good at all. During the month of July, they won just one game which was a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. But outside of that it was quite bleak: a 2-2 draw against the San Diego Loyal, a 1-0 loss to FC Tulsa, a 1-1 draw with the Charleston Battery, a 0-0 draw with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and a 2-0 rivalry game loss at Louisville City. Of interest to Memphis fans is that Indy Eleven employs former 901 FC midfielder Cam Lindley, who in his time at Memphis, scored one goal in 25 appearances and earned a call-up to the US U-23 national team.
