Thursday night, Memphis Grizzlies NBA 2K League Franchise Grizz Gaming looked to wrap up their eventful offseason. Making numerous trade to acquire assets that would flourish in both the 3v3 setting, and in the 5v5 setting as well. With one year down of the NBA 2K League implementing the 3v3 tournaments, a lot of teams this offseason had time to make adjustments.

Grizz Gaming was one of those teams that was looking to improve in both formats. Bringing back the franchise leader in points scored, Zach Vandivier (Vandi) to be the franchises Point Guard. Then, retaining the versatile big man Josh Mchatten (Spartxn) who can play positions three through five. The big question heading into Thursday night was – will the Grizz maximize each of their three picks?

With picks 14, 21 and 27 Grizz Gaming had an opportunity to maximize who surrounded Vandi and Spartxn. With the 14th pick in the 2024 Draft, Grizz Gaming took a first year full-time guy in David Lawson (OhDonn) to play Power Forward for Grizz Gaming. This will be Lawson’s first year on a 2K League roster, as he played last season on a community team in the 2023 3v3 Qualifier.

Lawson is highly respected around the 2K League as one of the up and coming defensive Power Forwards. A perfect pick for the Grizz at pick 14.

With their 21st pick in the 2K League draft, Grizz Gaming took another young guy in Nick Clark (IcyThaGoat) to be their lockdown defender. Clark put together quite the pre-draft resume together, which landed him with Grizz Gaming at Pick 21. Lockdown, a position the Grizz over the last three years have struggled to find consistency at.

Something that Grizz Gaming struggled with while Vandi was in Memphis originally was a secondary ball handler/consistent sharpshooter. With the 27th pick in the 2K League Draft, Grizz Gaming took two year veteran Craig Burnett Jr. (Rigby) who was working his way back into the 2K League. Rigby had a phenomenal rookie season with Hornets Venom, but followed it up in his second season with Raptors Uprising struggling to sustain consistency. Granted both franchises struggled overall, this gives Rigby a great opportunity to bounce back as Vandi values his two guards, and Rigby feeds off of volume.

The Grizz did what they needed to do. They got their 5v5 roster buttoned up, but more importantly, the team is better prepared for the 3v3 scene in 2024. Players arrive in Memphis the first week of February, which means the season is right around the corner for Grizz Gaming.
