Hustle fall short to Kings in front of their first ever sold-out crowd.
The Memphis Hustle hosted their first ever sold-out crowd as they took on the Stockton Kings Wednesday morning. The franchise was hosting their “Education Day,” which invited school students from the general area to attend the game and witness some live Hustle action. The Stockton Kings came into the matchup 9-6 on the season after losing their last two games versus the Austin Spurs and were looking to get back on pace, while the Memphis Hustle were 8-7 and attempting to extend their winning streak during this current homestand.
Stockton was charged by a very solid team effort that spread across all guys on the roster and was propelled by NBA veteran Jeremy Lamb off the bench, as well as Jalen Slawson. Lamb dropped 27 points on 9-15 shooting from the floor, as well as 12 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Slawson added 22 points and 10 boards.
Memphis, who has looked to be very on point as of late, struggled in this early morning battle and was definitely feeling the pain of DeJon Jarreau not being active. After jumping out to an early lead in the first, they began to fall apart moving forward. The team shot a very poor 39% from the field (opposed to Stockton’s 49%) and couldn’t get shots to fall consistently or establish a rhythm. They were out-assisted, out-rebounded, and out-scored in the afternoon. Adonis Arms led the team with 23 points, nine boards, and six assists. Michael Devoe and Timmy Allen both contributed nice scoring outputs with 17 and 16 points, respectively. The absence of Jarreau, who averages nearly a triple-double, was very apparent in this one.
The Hustle will look to battle the Texas Legends on Friday night. The Tip will be live from the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi, at 7:00 p.m. The game will be available for viewing at https://gleague.nba.com/.
