Memphis 901 FC @ Colorado Springs Switchbacks Preview

For the second time this season, Memphis 901 FC is on an impressive unbeaten run. Earlier this year, between April 27 and June 28, they went unbeaten in ten of eleven games. Currently, the Beale Street Boys are unbeaten in five of their last six games over the last month. In fact, dating all the way back to that April 27 win in Birmingham, 901 FC has only lost a total of four times in 19 games. Tonight, they will put their unbeaten run on the line against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.

Wednesday night’s game against the Switchbacks is the second game on this road trip for Memphis. Their last time out was on Saturday against the Oakland Roots (where, fortunately, the turf was down this time). The Beale Street Boys got off to a good start, with new signing Panos Armenakas scoring a Goal of the Week candidate. Memphis took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Oakland is fighting with 901 FC for the 3rd/4th spot in the standings and equalized in the 61st minute. Ultimately, they would be all the scoring and Memphis was able to get a point on the road.

Colorado Springs comes into this game against Memphis 901 FC heading in the opposite direction. While the Beale Street Boys are on a second, long unbeaten run, the Switchbacks are struggling to won games. Since a July 13 loss to the Birmingham Legion, Colorado Springs is winless in six of their last seven games (four of which were losses). Their lone win was a 2-0 win over the Phoenix Rising, who 901 FC had pounded 5-1 earlier in the year. Most recently, the Switchbacks dropped three points at home to New Mexico United, conceding less than ten minutes into the game and never getting their attack to fire (despite New Mexico going down to ten men with 20 minutes to play).
