Memphis 901 FC vs. Colorado Springs Switchbacks Preview

As the saying goes all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, Memphis 901 FC’s hot streak came to an end last Saturday in San Antonio. They may have lost, but it was a game in which they played well enough to get one or three points out of it. But as has been the theme so far this season, the players and coaches are not down on themselves and continue to believe in what they are doing. If the recent hot streak is proof of anything, it’s proof that this team is capable of putting tough losses behind them and continuing to play well and eventually get positive results. They get the chance to do it again with a stretch of three home games in eight days. First up is the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.

Despite the unbeaten run coming to an end, Head Coach Stephen Glass said he and the team are still in a very good spot.

“I think it’s important that we look at the big picture.” he said. “We’ve got a couple of games over some teams, we’re behind a couple of teams. But if we look after our business we’re six points off the top of the division, which for a team that lost five games in a row is pretty impressive. I think the biggest important factor right now is how quick we bounce back. Every team in the league is going to take defeats, every team I think is going to have decent little runs. And how long can your good runs be? So, performance level will dictate that. If that’s consistent you’ve got more likelihood of staying positive and getting positive outcomes. So the focus for us is work hard, perform well Saturday night and give the fans what they want to see again.”

Prior to last week, it was Memphis 901 FC who was the hottest team in the league. This week, it is the Colorado Springs Switchbacks who are the hottest team in the league. After an absolutely dreadful start to the season (they were winless in their first six games) they have caught fire. They picked up their first win of the season on April 27 against the Oakland Roots and haven’t looked back. They have now won five straight games and hauled themselves up the table and into 8th place in the conference. Perhaps most impressive is that during the five match win streak, they have kept four clean sheets and only conceded one goal (to Rhode Island FC).
