Penny Hardaway has secured his eighth commitment this offseason.

Sources confirm to Bluff City Media that Portugal guard Daniel Vieira-Tuck has committed to Memphis basketball. He joins Tulsa’s PJ Haggerty, Illinois’ Dain Dainja, Wichita State’s Colby Rogers, Texas’ Tyrese Hunter, George Mason’s Baraka Okojie, SMU’s Tyreek Smith and Ole Miss’ Moussa Cisse in the Tigers’ offseason additions.

The 6-foot-3 Vieira-Tuck spent last season as a reserve for S.L. Benfica, which finished second in the Portuguese Basketball League. He also played for Portugal’s U20 team during last year’s FIBA World Cup, during which he averaged 14.5 points per game. Portugal finished No. 6 in FIBA U20 Division B.

The 19-year-old will participate in the FIBA European Championships in Romania with Portugal’s U20 team, and then report to Memphis later this summer. He enters 2024-25 with four years of college eligibility remaining.

Vieira-Tuck joins a loaded backcourt featuring Haggerty (21.2 points per game), Rogers (40.9% from 3-point range on 7.1 tries per game) and Hunter (11.1 points and 4.1 assists per game). He, Okojie and 4-star high school recruit Jared Harris won’t be expected to play major roles this year, but could be solid pieces in the future.

Memphis, which currently has three open scholarships, will have just one lone returner in forward Nick Jourdain since star forward David Jones opted to remain in the 2024 NBA Draft and forgo his final year of eligibility with the Tigers.

All of Memphis’ current scholarship players besides Vieira-Tuck have reported to campus for summer workouts, which begin on June 1.
