Memphis Drops First Game of Series Versus Oral Roberts

The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles and the Memphis Tigers played their first game of a weekend series, the game start time got pushed up to 2 p.m. due to the incoming weather.

Oral Roberts would take the first game, 11-1, after an offensive explosion.

Oral Roberts got the game started off with a first inning home run from Mac McCroskey. Then, followed that up with a grand slam from Blaze Brothers in the second inning. Giving them a quick 5-0 lead.

Memphis struggled at the plate and mound throughout the entire game, only recording three hits through out and getting on base only six times. They also did not record a base runner from the 4th through 7th inning. Memphis would score in the 8th inning after Shane Cox made it home after a ground by Cade Hennemann.

Meanwhile Oral Roberts would continue their great offensive game scoring two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh inning.

David Warren the starting pitcher for Memphis would pitch 5.1 innings allowing 8 earned runs and 10 hits. He also had six strike outs to three walks. He would be given his first loss of the season moving him to 2-1.

Oral Roberts starting pitcher Jakob Hall would pitch six scoreless innings getting six strike outs, allowing two hits and no walks.

Takeaways

Memphis did not look good on either side of the field today, and for a team that on Wednesday were talking about how they don’t quit after a comeback win against Arkansas St. It definitely looked like they quit very early in today’s game. They seemingly weren’t trying to work the count in their favor when they were up to bat with a lot of first or second pitch swinging. They just came out flat against Oral Roberts, hopefully they look better tomorrow; because for a team that is hovering .500 they don’t want to limp into conference play and against defending National Champions Ole Miss. It may have just been the potential weather or the game getting moved up several hours, but I am hoping for them this was a fluke game.

Next Game

They will be taking on Oral Roberts in game two of the series tomorrow, at FedEx Field on the University of Memphis’ Park Campus. The game will start at 4 p.m. It is also Bark in the Park, and they are giving away an air fryer.
