Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield have been very impressive on the recruiting trail since the season ended, and they will look to carry that momentum into this weekend. Multiple former Power Five players will be on campus this weekend including: former Ohio State safety Jantzen Dunn and former LSU offensive linemen Marcus Dumervil and Xavier Hill.

Dunn was the No. 147 overall player and No. 7 overall safety coming out of high school in the 2021 class. The former four-star safety’s primary recruiter at Ohio State was current Memphis defensive coordinator Matt Barnes.

247Sports National Writer Charles Power spoke very highly of Dunn in 2020:

“Long and lean with an angular frame. Thin build with long arms and thin throughout his lower body. Has plenty of room to add mass. Is a high level athlete on the track and in combine settings, showing his explosiveness with strong marks in the vertical, long jump and broad jump in addition to very good speed and change of direction. Plays wide receiver and safety for his high school and projects on defense at the next level at safety or corner. Has top notch play speed, closing quickly when moving downhill from his safety spot. Shows a wide range with ability to get to the sideline in zone coverage. Has the physical framework and athleticism to develop into a strong tackler and run defender over time. His wide receiver background helps with the ball skills in coverage. Also shows his athleticism at receiver with the ability to rip off long catch and runs, outpacing opposing defenses. Has some rigidity in his backpedal and can continue improving his man cover skills. A high upside type who should continue getting better at a steady rate. Projects as a Power Five starter with the upside to develop into a NFL Draft pick.”

Dumervil and Hill both entered LSU as a part of the 2020 class, and Dumervil was rated as the No. 11 overall offensive tackle and Hill was the No. 26 overall guard. Hill has local ties as he played his high school ball at nearby Olive Branch High School in Olive Branch, MS.

Former 247Sports writer John Garcia Jr. had this to say about Dumervil while he was still in the high school ranks:

“Tall, fairly lean build for a 300-pound prospect. Long arms. Balanced blocker with great body control and awareness in pass and run situations. Patient as pass protector with good punch, footwork and overall technique. Strong anchor and ability to redirect underneath. Some edge through the whistle but more finesse and calculated than most at this stage. Mature prospect who takes calculated risks on the outside. Comfortable in short and deep sets alike. Left and right tackle experience. Consistent producer with adequate run-blocking prowess at first or second level. Efficient enough in space but could work to add explosion in time. Scheme versatile. High floor type of prospect who could see near immediate playing time at collegiate level. Added strength and mass will come sooner rather than later. True tackle qualities Day 1 in college coming out of perennial national high school power St. Thomas Aquinas, where he also played on the defensive line. Should develop into a mid-round NFL draft choice.”

Over the weekend, Memphis will also host former Texas A&M offensive lineman and current Hutchinson Community College big man Chris Morris. The Memphis native will be visiting this weekend with his current teammate and tight end Jamauri Chislom.
