Memphis 901 FC’s preseason has gotten off to a decent enough start. They kicked things off against Atlanta United of MLS on the campus of the University of Georgia. Nighte Pickering got the party started for the Beale Street Boys after just three minutes with a beautiful strike to give 901 FC a 1-0 lead. The Five Stripes of Atlanta United were way ahead in terms of preseason conditioning but were outplayed by Memphis for the bulk of the game. Unfortunately, they duly found the back of the net late in the game after much pressure and were able to get a 1-1 draw. This is a result that will still leave 901 FC feeling buoyed about their prospects this season.

Thursday’s game against Nashville SC (another MLS side) might be the first game action since the trip to Athens, but that doesn’t mean the team hasn’t been busy. On February 9, the team continued their roster building with the signing of goalkeeper (and Tennessee native) Taylor Bailey from the Oakland Roots. There was also another preseason game scheduled for last Saturday, February 10, against Christian Brothers University. However, that game was canceled a few days before meaning 901 FC now has just four preseason games, and only one of them is in Memphis.

While this game will most definitely be important for Memphis 901 FC’s 2024 preparations, so too will it be important for Nashville SC’s 2024 preparations. They have their MLS season opener against the New York Red Bulls on February 25. But on either side of that game they have a pair of CONCACAF Champions Cup (formerly known as the CONCACAF Champions League) games against Moca FC from the Dominican Republic. Should they advance, it would mean a Round of 16 match-up with Inter Miami and Lionel Messi.

For Memphis 901 FC, the regular season will begin in earnest at 3pm on Saturday, March 9 down at AutoZone Park against the Las Vegas Lights. They then have a second home game one week later on Saturday, March 16 at AutoZone Park against Indy Eleven, though a kickoff time has yet to be determined. Season tickets for all 2024 home game are currently on sale. Information regarding single game ticket sales is not yet available, though in an interview with Bluff City Media earlier this week, 901 FC COO Jay Mims said he expects those details to be released soon, “hopefully early next week.”
