Stephen Glass Signs Contract Extension With Memphis 901 FC
Stephen Glass was appointed as the Memphis 901 FC manager in November of 2022 and today signed a deal to extend his contract that will keep him in Memphis through the end of the 2025 season. With the extension, Glass will become the longest-tenured manager in Memphis 901 FC history.
“When we hired Stephen, we wanted a straight shooter, a team player, someone who was on board with an attacking brand of soccer and made no excuses,” said Acting Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell. “Stephen has delivered in every way and as a club, we are excited to continue building one of the best attacking teams in the USL and consistently compete for Championships for our fans. He has driven the new culture we wanted within the club, including our shared commitment to collective leadership, community outreach, and mentorship to the next generation of players in our area.”
When Glass was hired as the 901 FC manager, he had plenty of managerial experience, not only in the USL Championship, but in MLS and in Europe as well. He managed at Shamrock Rovers in Ireland on an interim basis and was also the boss for Atlanta United 2 in the USL. When Frank de Boer was dismissed as Atlanta United’s manager in 2020, Glass was tapped to replace him through the end of the season. Following the 2021 season (back with Atlanta United 2), Glass took a job in his native Scotland with Aberdeen. And then of course, was named head man for the Beale Street Boys.
Last year, Glass guided Memphis 901 FC to a 4th place finish in the Eastern Conference and as a result, 901 FC was able to host a home playoff game. He also won a pair of games in the US Open Cup, including a Cupset over his former team, Atlanta United of MLS. This year, the Beale Street Boys may not have scored the Cupset (falling to FC Dallas after defeating Miami United) but they are currently in 3rd place in the Western Conference and have scored more goals than anybody else in the West (40 of them). Glass has 901 FC playing particularly well at home, as they haven’t lost a game at AutoZone Park since April.
The next time fans can see Memphis 901 FC at AutoZone Park is on Wednesday, September 11 against Hartford Athletic for Hometown Heroes Night and then a few days later on Saturday, September 14 against North Carolina FC for the third post-game fireworks show of the season.
