Memphis basketball has its third commitment from the transfer portal.

Sources confirm to Bluff City Media that the Tigers have landed Wichita State guard Colby Rogers. The 6-foot-4 rising senior, who chose Memphis over the likes of Kansas and others, averaged 16.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 40% from the field and 40.9% from 3-point range.

He joins Tulsa guard PJ Haggerty and Illinois center Dain Dainja in Memphis’ transfer portal class, and is head coach Penny Hardaway’s second transfer within the American Athletic Conference (AAC).

Rogers and the Shockers ended Memphis’ 2023-24 campaign in the second round of last month’s AAC Tournament. He scored 13 of Wichita’s 71 points in that game on a 37.5% clip from beyond the arc. He also put up 20 points during WSU’s 112-86 loss to the Tigers on Jan. 14, and 19 points during a 65-63 defeat inside FedExForum on Feb. 3.

The 23-year-old ultimately led Paul Mills’ club to the AAC Tournament quarterfinals before falling to UAB, which eventually won the tourney, 72-60. He enters next season with one year of eligibility remaining.

Memphis is expected to lose Jahvon Quinerly, Nae’Qwan Tomlin, Caleb Mills, Jordan Brown, Jayden Hardaway and Malcolm Dandridge due to expired eligibility. It’s also losing Jonathan Pierre, Jayhlon Young, Carl Cherenfant, Ashton Hardaway and Jaykwon Walton to the transfer portal, so Penny Hardaway must replace at least eight players this offseason with Haggerty, Dainja and Rogers onboard for next year.

Forward Nick Jourdain, a rising senior, publicly announced his return to Memphis back in February. The Tigers can also bring back David Jones, Joe Cooper and Noah Stansbury. Four-star guard Jared Harris is the program’s only incoming high school recruit as of now.
