Memphis 901 FC announced on Friday the team has signed former MLS goalkeeper and USL veteran Tyler Deric to a multi-year contract.
Deric comes to 901 FC most recently from the Rio Grande Valley Toros, who ceased operations following the 2023 season (which is part of why 901 FC has been moved into the Western Conference of the USL Championship).
“We are excited to bring Tyler into our group,” Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. “He is an extremely experienced goalkeeper and through our discussions has shown a burning desire to win a championship here in Memphis. We look forward to Tyler having a big presence at the back for us this season and helping us achieve our objectives.”
During his time at RGV he made 95 appearances and kept a total of 23 clean sheets over the course of three seasons. Prior to his time in the USL, he was a member of the Houston Dynamo in MLS from 2009 to 2019. In that decade, he made 100 appearances and kept 27 clean sheets. In those years the Dynamo were the MLS Cup runners-up in 2011 and 2012 (losing the MLS Cup Final to the LA Galaxy both years) and won the US Open Cup in 2018.
The addition of Deric is the latest personnel move made by 901 FC just in the last week. Yesterday it was announced that the team had signed Alvaro Quezada from the Las Vegas Lights. On Tuesday they signed the defender Tulu from San Antonio FC. Less than a week before that they added forward Noe Meza from Union Omaha in USL League One. And the day before that they announced that Leston Paul, the longest-tenured 901 FC player and team captain, had signed a multi-year deal. But 901 FC wasn’t waiting around until the new year to start making roster announcements. They got that ball rolling back in November when they announced they were keeping ten players from last year’s team that hosted a home playoff game after finishing fourth in the Eastern Conference. And of course, they also made a very well-received move in bringing back former 901 FC player Kyle Murphy.
More news regarding new signings and players with options on their contract will be announced in the near future.
The 2024 season for Memphis 901 FC begins at home on Saturday, March 9 against the Las Vegas Lights down at AutoZone Park. Another home game follows the next Saturday against Indy Eleven.
Single game ticket information has not yet been made available to the public, but 2024 season tickets are on sale now.
